I am revising my Geog and Hist.
Geog.
Why are rivers important?
1. They help to shape Earth physical landscape.
2. They make transport, communication and trade easier.
3. They form importantant political boudaries b/w countries.
4. They are sources of fresh water.
Formation of rivers.
Raining. X Precipitation. /
Blah blah blah. Hydrologic cycle. i know how draw la.
Divided into 3 courses.
Upper course, Middle Course, Lower Course.
Eat Papaya.
Volume of river measured by its discharge.
Discharge= Vol. of water that flows through a point along the river within a given time.
Drainage basin is an area drained by the river.
Watershed ( Drainage divider ) is a boundary formed around the basin and seperates
it.
Erosion.
Hydraulic Action, force of runnning water striking the banks and bed removing loose materials such as soil, sand and single rocks. The pressure of watr forcing its way into the cracks in rocks, widening and breaking them dwn into fragments.

When rocks on the river are constantly dragged on the bed and wall of the river caused bythe swift running water. ( breaks down the rock machanically.)

Solution/Corrosion.
River water reacting chemically with minerals in the rock dissolvin thm to form a solution, Most commong in limestone.

Deposition is caused when the river looses energy. Most prominent at the lower course of the river because the gradient there is gentler thn the gradient at the upper course. I wrote this out myself! Amount of sediments deposited depends on the amt of sediments the river carrys.

3-reduces the length of a river channel.
4-increases the speed of the river.
5-river being able to flow away from a region faster
6-washes away sediments that is accumulated on the riverbed.
7-Reduces localized flooding.

9-Mississipi river was shortened by 240km.
10-Uses this method to manage flooding.
11-Needed regular maintanence
12-Need to ensure that it is in working condition
13-Requires lots of resources , funding eg.

15-Difficult for poor countries, Mekong river in vietnam eg.
16-Cost is inhibitive.
17-Disadvantage, destroys wetland habitats.
18-Disadvantage, aesthetically unappealing.
19-Tourism suffers ( scenery (attraction) of the river is spoilt )

Re-sectioning
1-Deepening and Widening the river channels.
2-Side of river smoothened by soil of river bed, banks with cement and granite.
3-Increases river's stability to hold more water
4-Reduces occurence of flood.
5-Increases amt of surface runoff from surrounding areas into river.
(more surface runoff can enter the river w/o flooding)
6-Smoothering of river bed and side reduces friction b/w water and bank, increase speed of river.
7-Method mainly used in richer and more developed country, USA Singapore eg.
8-Mississipi river used this method to manage flooding
9-Requires regular maintanence
10-Need to check whether it is in working condition.
11-requires lots of sources like funding
12-Technical skills to construct such features
13- Might be a problem for poor countries, Mekong river in Vietnam,
14-Aesthetically unappealing
15-Tourism suffer because scenery of river is ruined.
Vegetation Planting
1-Planting plants along the river banks.
2-Slow down the surface runoff into the river.
3-Allow the roots of the vegetation to bind the soil and stabilize river banks.
4-Trees intercept the water from precipitation from entering the river
5-Water infiltrates to the soil.
6-So... Will have less water in the river, meaning lesser flood.
7-Cheaper and more preferable method compared to constructing of artificial structure, eg. Re-alignment.
8-Able to preserve the scenery and tourism wont be affected,
9-Requires proper maintanence.
10-Presence of vegetation could hinder the flow of the river and also contribute to accumulate wood debris tthus deflecting the water flow, accelerate bank erosion, slow down the flow of river and cause more flood?? WTF? They said less flood and now more flood. RUbBISH,
11-Weight of trees could lead into the collapsion of the river banks.
12-Take a very time for the vegies to grow.

Lol, just came home from Downtown east. Went there with my cousin to eat dinner.

Why are the blogskins so Wtf. Walau, all the blogskins after i change alr thn my entries all missing.

So many freaking homeworks which i dont even feel like doing.
So many stupid common test which i dont feel like failing, but i dont want to study.
